Myth Foundry Art Bible

The official visual language guide for all Creator Arena submissions. Study this carefully before creating your entry.

Core Principle

The foundation of all Myth Foundry art

Myth Foundry art is mythic realism—grounded enough to feel believable, elevated enough to feel legendary.

Foundational Visual Philosophy

1. Myth Over Genre

  • Designs should feel timeless, not trend-chasing.
  • Avoid visual cliches tied to short-lived aesthetics.
  • Every character and environment should feel like it could become a modern myth.

2. Consequence-Driven Design

  • Power always has a visible cost.
  • Evolution, technology, magic, and divinity leave marks.
  • Nothing appears perfect, pristine, or free.

3. Identity First

  • Silhouettes must be instantly readable.
  • Characters should be recognizable without color or detail.
  • Each major figure must have a visual "thesis."

Universal Design Pillars

Silhouette & Readability

  • Strong shapes readable at distance or in shadow
  • Avoid overly symmetrical outlines
  • Prioritize posture, proportion, negative space

Texture & Material Logic

  • Materials must look functional
  • Organic elements show wear or growth
  • Artificial elements show engineering logic

Emotional Legibility

  • Faces and body language must communicate inner conflict
  • Even non-human characters require emotional clarity

Character Archetype Framework

The Ascended

Forced Evolution / Power

  • Visually strained or unstable
  • Hybridization, distortion, or excess
  • Signs of containment, restraint, or decay

The Grounded

Human / Moral Anchor

  • Cleaner silhouettes
  • Functional clothing and tools
  • Calm, centered posture

The Transcendent

Cosmic / Ancient

  • Minimalist but overwhelming presence
  • Symbolic anatomy rather than literal detail
  • Scale and negative space convey power

The Corrupted

Misuse of Power

  • Asymmetry and degradation
  • Visual noise, overgrowth, or fragmentation
  • Loss of identity readability

Technology, Magic & Power Systems

Technology

  • Medical, industrial, or military logic.
  • Interfaces feel invasive, not elegant.
  • Tech often restrains or stabilizes rather than empowers.

Magic / Cosmic Forces

  • Subtle, symbolic, and environmental.
  • Effects should alter reality, not decorate it.
  • Avoid particle overload or spectacle-first design.

Evolution & Mutation

  • Changes must be adaptive, not cosmetic.
  • Mutations reflect survival needs.
  • Psychological impact should be visible.

Environment & World Design

Built Spaces

  • Architecture reflects ideology and power structures
  • Advanced societies feel controlled, not utopian
  • Decay and maintenance coexist

Natural Spaces

  • Nature is not passive—it reacts to civilization
  • Landscapes can feel ancient, hostile, or watchful

Scale

  • Use figures to establish awe and insignificance
  • Environments should dwarf individuals when appropriate

Color Theory & Lighting

Palette Rules

  • Muted base palettes dominate.
  • High-saturation colors are rare and meaningful.
  • Color often signals danger, power, or instability.

Lighting Philosophy

  • Directional, dramatic lighting.
  • Shadows are narrative tools.
  • Avoid flat or evenly lit compositions.

Panel Composition & Visual Storytelling

For comic submissions:

  • Favor cinematic framing.
  • Use negative space to imply scale and isolation.
  • Action should feel heavy and consequential.
  • Quiet moments are as important as spectacle.

Consistency & Variation Rules

What Must Stay Consistent

  • Core philosophy and tone
  • Design logic and consequence
  • Emotional seriousness

What Can Vary

  • Genre expression (sci-fi, mythic, grounded, cosmic)
  • Cultural aesthetics per world
  • Technology level and visual density

Artist Do / Do Not

DO

  • Ask what the power costs.
  • Design for longevity.
  • Prioritize silhouette and emotion.

DO NOT

  • Chase trends.
  • Over-polish or over-decorate.
  • Default to superhero tropes.

Final Guiding Statement

Myth Foundry worlds are not fantasies of escape—they are reflections of consequence. Every line, shadow, and shape should feel earned. If a design looks powerful, the viewer should also sense what was sacrificed to achieve it.

This bible is a living document. As new myths are forged, the philosophy remains—even as the worlds evolve.
